Opening of a vested benefit account

Have you received information that an account has been opened for you at the Substitute Occupational Benefit Institution but do not know what this means?

There are two possibilities:

  1. Did you leave your pension fund several months ago? If so, these are assets from your previous pension fund that we manage for you on behalf of the Confederation. Pension funds have a legal obligation to transfer customers’ assets to us if after leaving they fail to contact the fund within six months of leaving the pension fund.

  2. You have instructed your pension fund to transfer your vested benefits to the Substitute Occupational Benefit Institution.

Has your employment relationship been terminated and are you leaving your pension fund, but you are not immediately starting to work for a new employer?

You can open a vested benefits account with the Substitute Occupational Benefit Institution until you join your new employer’s pension fund. To that end, instruct your current pension fund to transfer vested benefits to the Substitute Occupational Benefit Institution. As soon as your assets have been transferred to us, we will automatically open a vested benefits account. You will then receive written confirmation from us that your account has been opened.
